Cabo At SCIBS

40 Flybridge ZEUS and 38 Express at Sanctuary Cove Boat Show
Game and Leisure Boats' display of three Cabos is proving popular at this year's 23rd Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show here on Queensland's Gold Coast. The 38 Express, 38 Flybridge, and the 40 Flybrdige ZEUS sportfishers stand out amongst the sail boats and much larger expedition style yachts that surround them.

Growing in popularity, the express style boats are prefect for fishing from bases such as Port Stephens or the Gold Coast (where currently one is offered by GLB under syndication), or working alongside a mothership off Cairns. The Cabo 38 is a great example of a boat that is prefect for running in and out for a day's fishing, but also can accommodate the occasional night behind the reef. Powered by twin Caterpillar C-12 engines at 710ph each gives the 38 a top speed of 36 knots.

The cockpit of the 38 is a dream. Clean, functional and fishable. An aluminum reinforcing plate for mounting a game chair comes standards, there is a large bait tank, up to ten rod holders, and both saltwater and freshwater wash downs. In the cabin, the L-shaped lounge converts into upper and lower berths and the forward cabin can sleep four in the double berth and two overhead singles. Meaning this great little boat can be a serious fisher for a boys weekend, and the next, easy accommodate the family on a weekend away.

On show for the first time at an Australian boat show, the 40 Flybridge ZEUS like every Cabo is designed to tackle both big seas and big fish. The saloon has an outstanding finish, with a comfortable L-shaped lounge against the aft bulkhead and dining table opposite. There is very functional galley and below two cabins and two heads. The starboard side cabin has a double berth and really clever pull out single berth above. The forward stateroom a double island berth and rod cabinets either side.

But the big talking point at the moment, has to be what is below the cockpit floor. The innovative ZEUS Pod Drives matched with the twin Cummins QSC8.3 600hp offers improved fuel economy, faster cruising speed and a faster top speed. Plus enhanced maneuverability and features such as Skyhook holds boat position and heading which is prefect for keeping station above a fishing mark.

For Cabo 38 Express, as well as the 38 flybridge and 40 Flybridge ZEUS are on show at the Game and Leisure Boats display on Marina Eat the 2011 Sanctuary Cove Boat Show. And check out the GLB stand in the open area outside the main pavilion.
